A BETTER LIFE LIVED

GREATER THAN

COLOSSIANS 2:1-17

Pastor Daniel Cassels

June 11, 2017

I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery —Christ. Colossians 2:2 (HCSB)

I am saying this so that no one will deceive you with persuasive arguments. Colossians 2:4 (HCSB)

Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elemental forces of the world, and not based on Christ. Colossians 2:8 (HCSB)

Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, Colossians 2:6 (HCSB)

And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (HCSB)

WALKING (LIVING) BEGINS WITH A STEP

1. IT IS A PERSONAL __________________

2. IT IS A PERMANENT _________________

If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9 (HCSB)

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13 (HCSB)

WALKING (LIVING) IS A SERIES OF STEPS

Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him… Colossians 2:6 (HCSB)

1. THE PROCESS OF SALVATION

TWO HUMAN RESPONSES:

a. ___________________

b. ______________

But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ.

8 More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ… Philippians 3:7–8 (HCSB)

...because an angel would go down into the pool from time to time and stir up the water. Then the first one who got in after the water was stirred up recovered from whatever ailment he had]. One man was there who had been sick for 38 years. John 5:4–5 (HCSB)

WALKING (LIVING) IS CONTROLLED FALLING

1. IF YOU’RE NOT WALKING _____________,

YOU’LL FALL FLAT ON YOUR FACE

a. IT IS NOT THE ____________ EXPERIENCE

The one who says, "I have come to know Him," yet doesn’t keep His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoever keeps His word, truly in him the love of God is perfected. This is how we know we are in Him: The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:4–6 (HCSB)

b. IT IS CONTINUALLY ___________ AND __________

… FALLING

Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless and with great joy… Jude 24 (HCSB)

2. HE IS _________ TO KEEP US FROM FALLING
