They said to me, "The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned." When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying before the God of the heavens. Nehemiah 1:3-4

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Matthew 23:37

Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance. Matthew 3:8

The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God. Psalm 51:17

Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; you understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; you are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, Lord. You have encircled me; you have placed your hand on me. Psalm 139:1–5

And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:27

3. WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM NEHEMIAH’S PRAYER?

_________ do you and I pray to?

I said, Lord, the God of the heavens, the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps his gracious covenant with those who love him and keep his commands … Nehemiah 1:5

What ________________ do we have?

let your eyes be open and your ears be attentive to hear your servant’s prayer that I now pray to you day and night for your servants, the Israelites. I confess the sins we have committed against you. Both I and my father’s family have sinned. Nehemiah 1:6

Do we deal with our own __________ and the ___________ of the church?

We have acted corruptly toward you and have not kept the commands, statutes, and ordinances you gave your servant Moses. Nehemiah 1:7

Do we claim by faith the ______________ of God?

Please remember what you commanded your servant Moses: "If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples. But if you return to me and carefully observe my commands, even though your exiles were banished to the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place where I chose to have my name dwell." They are your servants and your people. You redeemed them by your great power and strong hand. Nehemiah 1:8–10

Do you pray _______ and __________ prayers, remembering who you pray too?

Please, Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to that of your servants who delight to revere your name. Give your servant success today, and grant him compassion in the presence of this man., At the time, I was the king’s cupbearer. Nehemiah 1:11
