Serve in Love

Acts 4:32-35 Daniel Cassels February 22, 2015

1. BE UNITIFIED IN _____________ YOU SERVE

Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. And the apostles were giving testimony with great power to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them. (Acts 4:32-33 HCSB)

If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal. Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (Philippians 2:1–4 HCSB)

Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude, praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved. (Acts 2:44-47 HCSB)

2. _____________ FOR OTHER TO SERVE

For there was not a needy person among them, because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed for each person’s basic needs. (Acts 4:34-35 HCSB)

As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing…" (Eph. 4:16b NLT)

The focus of my letter wasn’t on punishing the offender but on getting you to take responsibility for the health of the church. (2 Cor. 2:9 Message)

3. FOLLOW ________________ ON HOW TO SERVE

Joseph, a Levite and a Cypriot by birth, the one the apostles called Barnabas, which is translated Son of Encouragement, sold a field he owned, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. (Acts 4:36-37 HCSB)

In the same way, you younger men, be subject to the elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another… (1 Peter 5:5 HCSB)

For God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you showed for His name when you served the saints—and you continue to serve them. Now we want each of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the final realization of your hope, so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance. (Hebrews 6:10–12 HCSB)
