AD: EASTER WAS JUST THE BEGINNING

Acts 8:1-4

Daniel Cassels May 10, 2015

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8 NIV)

1. A SEED PLANTED MAY BE HARD TO ________

Saul agreed with putting him to death. (Acts 8:1a HCSB)

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7 HCSB)

…so My word that comes from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do." (Isaiah 55:11 HCSB)

2. DO THE _________ THING … IS NOT ALWAYS THE ________ THING

On that day a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the land of Judea and Samaria. Devout men buried Stephen and mourned deeply over him. Saul, however, was ravaging the church. He would enter house after house, drag off men and women, and put them in prison. (Acts 8:1b-3 HCSB)

Those who are persecuted for righteousness are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. "You are blessed when they insult and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:10-12 HCSB)

"If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me before it hated you. (John 15:18 HCSB)

So it is a sin for the person who knows to do what is good and doesn’t do it. (James 4:17 HCSB)

3. WHEREVER YOU _____ … SHARE WHAT YOU _______

So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the message of good news. (Acts 8:4 HCSB)

…but honor the Messiah as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are accused, those who denounce your Christian life will be put to shame. (1 Peter 3:15-16 HCSB)

You will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. (Matthew 10:22 HCSB)
