Building Life Together – 3

Philippians 4:12 Pastor

Daniel Cassels April 15, 2018
I know both how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content—whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. Philippians 4:12 (CSB)
You shall not covet...anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:16
 "COVET": the ____________________desire to acquire
____________________ Don’t wear yourself out to get rich; because you know better, stop! Proverbs 23:4 (CSB)
____________________ He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. Ecclesiastes 5:10 (ESV)
____________________ A working man ... can get a good night's sleep.  But the rich man has so much that he stays awake worrying. Ecclesiastes 5:12 (GN)
____________________ What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. James 4:1–3 (ESV)
____________________ You will never be satisfied if you long to be rich.  You will never get all you want. Ecclesiastes 5:10 (GN)
(LB) It's foolish to think wealth brings happiness!
(Paul) I have learned the secret of being content... whether in abundance or in need.Phil 4:12 (CSB)
 1.  _________________ COMPARING MYSELF TO OTHERS. We do not dare classify or compare ourselves ... it is not wise. 2 Cor. 10:12 (NIV)
But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 1 Timothy 6:9 (CSB)
2. ____________________ IN WHAT I DO HAVE. If God gives a man wealth and property .. he should be grateful and enjoy what he has... it is a gift from God. Ecclesiastes 5:19 (GN)
It is better to be satisfied with what you have than to be always wanting something else. Ecclesiastes 6:9 (GN)
3.  ___________________ WHAT I HAVE TO HELP OTHERS. Tell those who are rich, not to be proud and not to trust in their money which will soon be gone.  Tell them to use their money to do good ... to give happily to those in need, always with others whatever God has given them.  By doing this they will be storing up real treasure for themselves in heaven -- it is the only safe investment for eternity! 1 Tim. 6:17-19 (LB)
There is more happiness in giving than in receiving. Acts 20:35 (GN)
4.  ____________________ ON WHAT'S GOING TO LAST. We fix our attention, not on the things that are seen, but on things that are unseen.  What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever. 2 Cor. 4:18 (NLT)
A man's true life is not made up of the things he owns, no matter how rich he may be. Luke 12:15 (GN)
